The UAE Introduces Entry Permit Service for Residents Who Spent Over 6 Months Abroad
Published on: 31 January 2023

As of 27 January 2023, there is an entry permit application service for UAE residents who have been outside the country for more than 6 months.

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) announced the launch of this service today, 31 January 2023, in a statement where it clarified the conditions and requirements for the entry permit application.

The Authority emphasized that the new entry permit application service is only for UAE residents who have valid resident permits approved within the system of services provided by ICP. These residents must have been staying abroad due to work, study, or medical treatment for more than 6 months in order to be considered in the new entry permit application service. The Authority stated that holders of the UAE Golden visa are not included in this service.

From a legal standpoint, ICP-approved residence permits would be revoked if the resident spends that much time outside the UAE. However, the new entry permit application service gives UAE residents the chance of reactivating their permits and reentering the country, as long as they apply for the entry permit from abroad with a valid Emirates ID, passport, and an explanation of the delay in returning to the UAE.

In the statement, the ICP affirmed its commitment to improving the system of services for its customers by optimizing procedures and embracing digital transformation. The goal is to offer a full range of services, including new ones, which address the needs of the customers and respond to exceptional circumstances.
